Great to get some support from Martin Offiah too!
League Legend to support Amateurs
Harlequins RL are pleased to announce that former Wigan, London Broncos and Great Britain legend, Martin Offiah MBE will be at the Stoop on Saturday August 18th and will be on hand to present the Rugby League Conference Southern Premier Grand Final Trophy to the winners of Saturday's hotly anticipated match.
Offiah, nicknamed 'Chariots', made 158 appearances for Wigan between 1991 and 1996, crossing for 186 tries. His appearances for the Cherry & Whites included four Challenge Cup Final wins, five Championship winning teams, three Regal Trophy wins and a Lancashire Cup victory. It also includes Wigan's World Club Championship victory over the Brisbane Bronco's in 1994.
In 1996, Offiah made the move down south to join London Broncos, where he played in the club's Challenge Cup Final appearance at Wembley in 1999.
Over a 14 year career, Offiah scored a massive 501 tries, making him the third highest try scorer in world rugby league history.
The match will be held as a curtain raiser to Quins vital clash with Wigan Warriors, and the passion and intensity will certainly be enough to match that of the engage Super League, as two of London's top amateur sides battle it out for the chance to become regional champions, with the opportunity to progress to the national semi-finals in two weeks' time.
Reigning national champions, South London Storm, booked their place in the Grand Final at Storm Park, withstanding a mammoth effort from London Skolars A, eventually running out 48-24 winners. In 2006, then led by current Quins Assistant Coach, Rob Powell, Storm won the Southern Premiership in style and went on to become the first ever London based team to become National Champions.
St Albans Centurions arrived at the Grand Final following a stunning run-in, winning all of their final 12 matches to finish as Minor Premiers and automatic finalists.
